National Women’s Health Week is coming up May 13 to May 19! This week of celebration starts on Mother’s Day and it’s the perfect time to encourage and support women. We want to celebrate all the amazing women in our lives and country by sharing some simple daily lifestyle changes that will help them live a long, healthy life!
Healthy Food Choices
A healthy diet leads to a healthy heart, body and mind- it’s that simple. We know the struggle to say goodbye to greasy junk food, but it is so important to make conscious choices for happy organs. You don’t have to give up all your favorite foods cold turkey- start with small changes. Make it a goal to eat one salad a day or to have fruit as a replacement for something sweet for dessert. Your body will love you for all the healthy nutrients from just that one simple salad.
Get Moving
Now that we are entering into summer, it’s a lot easier to find opportunities to get moving! Take a walk around your neighborhood after work or go on a quick morning run before breakfast if you’re an early riser. Adults should be moving a minimum of 2 hours and 30 minutes every week, so think about how you can incorporate the types of exercise or sports you enjoy to meet this. Even if you’re someone who detests exercising, you will notice after just a few weeks that along with making your body healthier, your energy levels will increase and your self-confidence will bloom!
Healthy Behaviors
There are so many social, family, individual and business activities we participate in each day that keep us on the go. It’s important to take notice of unhealthy habits and change where correction is needed. Have you ever noticed the headache sneaking up on you, and didn’t know why? You probably didn’t drink enough water. Carry a travel water bottle with you and make sure you drink the whole bottle every day. Another great reminder is to apply sunscreen when you are spending time outdoors. Don’t fall victim to social smoking or drinking too much when you go out- moderation is key. Last but not least, we want to emphasize the importance of a full night’s sleep. For all you busy bees, plan ahead so you get a 7-8 hours of sleep every night. All these tips will help you live a healthier and more positive lifestyle!
